I was saddened to learn of Orlie's passing. We first met at the Woodlawn church when he led a group of high school seniors on a summer mission to Bolivia. A couple of years later he invited me to speak at the Schulenburg church. In 1970, he officiated at our wedding in Berkeley. We saw each other occasionally after that. I knew Orlie for 60 years. I will cherish my memories of him.

Or lie was my older brother and mentor while we were in high school in Silver City, NM. I followed him into the Methodist ministry,.To McMurray College in Abilene, Texas etc. He was certainly a cherished friend.

(finishing my note below) I always knew I was in the presence of a great and deeply insightful man--a very serious thinker--but I never felt the burden of it. One moment from our wedding stands out. Being a chef at the time, I decided to make our cake. With all the many things happening that weekend, it was a tight squeeze. Orlie spent an hour with me in the kitchen, delighting in the process and calming my nerves. What a great man. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have known him. With deep love and respect, Scott
